Choosing a funeral home is a very infrequent activity for most people. For some, it may even be once in a lifetime. Selecting the right funeral home is not as difficult as you think, even if you have numerous funeral parlors in your city. The process may require asking a few questions, but here is a guide to help you.

What Type Of Service Do You Want?

One of the first things you must decide is what service you want. Do you want a traditional service and burial or a direct cremation followed by no service?

While most funeral homes offer most types of services, some do not. For example, some funeral homes do not offer cremation services. While they usually partner with a facility that does, they are not the direct provider.

Other locations may allow you to have the funeral or memorial service in their funeral parlor. They may have a chapel onsite, but other homes may not have these facilities. You need to ensure that that particular location offers the services you desire.

Who Do Friends Or Family Recommend?

Although choosing a funeral home is an infrequent activity, most people go through it at least once. Ask for recommendations from friends or family.

If you have friends who are clergy, ask them for their opinion. Clergy often has more exposure to death and funeral services.

Once you have recommendations, go online and see what reviews others have left. Check out the funeral home's website or one of the other sites that rate businesses.

Will You Be Limited To A Certain Number Of People At The Service?

Suppose you have a large family or anticipate numerous friends and co-workers attending the service at the funeral home. In that case, you want to ensure that everyone can participate. Some funeral chapels are small rooms within the funeral home itself. These rooms often seat small numbers of people. While the smaller spaces may be adequate for visitations, they may not seat the number of people you expect.

COVID-19 has also limited the number of people allowed to attend funeral services in many areas. Ask any funeral home you consider if there are limitations on the number of people who can attend.

Is The Funeral Home In A Convenient Location?

Choose a funeral home that is convenient to get to, especially if this is where you are holding the service. This convenient location will make it easier for you to make the necessary arrangements and for the attendees to find the service.
